Natasha Ryan

'Girl in the cupboard' Natasha Ryan has reportedly wed the man who hid her from her family for five years / File

Ryan, 24, will marry Scott Black later this year in Rockhampton, Woman's Day magazine reports.

"I'm sick of being known as Natasha Ryan — the girl in the cupboard ... I want to start a new life," Ms Ryan was quoted by the magazine as saying.

"I made mistakes and I'm sorry that I hurt my family, but now I want to start a new life."

Ms Ryan went into hiding inside Mr Black's Rockhampton home back in 1998, when she was 14 years old.

She was not heard from for more than five years until a tip-off led police to search the house.

Ms Ryan's parents were so convinced that their child was dead that they held a moving memorial service for her.

Serial killer Leonard John Fraser was charged with Ms Ryan's murder, along with those of several other women.

Ms Ryan sensationally reappeared during his murder trial.

Mr Black was ultimately charged with perjury for giving false evidence during Fraser's committal hearing and served 12 months in jail.

The couple, who have a four-year-old son named Corey, are hoping the wedding will bring them a fresh start.

Despite their long — and unusual — courtship, Ms Ryan said she was shocked by the proposal.

"We were sitting at home ... and suddenly he pulled out a ring," Ms Ryan told the magazine.

"It caught me off guard and the emotions were overwhelming."

Most every magazine and newspaper caught on to this farce..

Another Media Outlet has these same pictures of the now Mrs Black.. When I saw her 2 Fridays ago

she and the curly haired boy were sitting at the bus stop in front of North Side Plaza....probably spotted by most Rockhampton residents.  Could have been a look-alike, and I would never have sworn it was her, jut the same one I saw in the late '90's down town with the look-alike killer,  Len Fraser..

EEN runaway Natasha Ryan has married Scott Black, the man who hid her in a Rockhampton cupboard for five years. Ms Ryan sparked a nationwide search when she went missing in August 1998, aged 14.

Her family believed she had been murdered, until police discovered Natasha Ryan hiding in a bedroom cupboard in April 2003.

She had been secretly living with Mr Black, who is seven years her senior.

It is believed the couple enjoyed a "small and intimate" wedding in Brisbane on Saturday, and were yesterday spotted at Brisbane Airport, catching a plane to Melbourne.

Ms Ryan's mother Jenny Kerwin, gave her away, and father Robert Ryan - who once held a memorial service for the daughter he thought he had lost - also attended.

At the time Ms Ryan vanished, a number of women and girls in Rockhampton had also disappeared, and were later found to be victims of serial killer Leonard John Fraser.

Fraser was also charged with Ms Ryan's murder, but the trial ground to an unexpected halt when Ms Ryan made her spectacular reappearance.

The truth was revealed after detectives received a tip-off as to the teenager's whereabouts, which led to a raid on Mr Black's house.

Mr Black was jailed for 12 months for lying to police over Ms Ryan's disappearance, and in 2006 was fined $3000 and ordered to pay police costs of $16,740 for causing a false police investigation.

Ms Ryan, 24, who gave birth to Mr Black's son, Corey, in 2004, has made an estimated $200,000 by selling her story to media organisations.

She has yet to repay the $160,000 costs of the investigation into her disappearance and suspected murder.

Despite plenty of speculation, the reason for her disappearance has never been explained and Ms Ryan has previously said she would never disclose her reasons.

"I'm not sure it would make any difference saying why I left," she said.

"I feel whatever I say wouldn't be good enough for the pain I've caused my family."
